Bush in Tiananmen Square

Beijing welcomed the 1988 election of George H. W. Bush, whom many Chinese regarded as an old friend. A month after he assumed office, the president paid a 2-day visit to China. The above photos were taken as the president stopped in Tiananmen Square en route to the guest house where he is staying (February 25). The photo comes to represent ultimate irony as the relationship between “old friends” soured after the bloodshed of the Tiananmen “massacre” less than five months after this visit.

  1. I’ve been surfing online more than 3 hours lately, yet I never found any fascinating article like yours. It is beautiful value sufficient for me. In my opinion, if all website owners and bloggers made excellent content material as you did, the internet will probably be a lot more helpful than ever before.
